Why I started Studio One:

As a Rolfer since 1996 I started looking for a modality that would help my clients keep the work better and see me less frequently. I tried yoga and various other modalities and stopped my search with pilates because of its simplicity in movement. Quickly, I noticed my own body changing as well as the bodies of my own cleints.  In the last 15 years of teaching I've developed a workout uniqute to Studio One that results in structural integration. That's right, when you do a VASIE workout, you are Rolfing your self. As funny as this sounds, it's absolutly true and it's one of the reasons physical therapists, chiropractors, doctors and massage therapist LOVE our work for their clients. VASIE, Van Alstine Structural Integration Exercise, is the glue that puts bodies together in a predictable, systematic and affordable way. I hope you truly benefit from EVERY workout!

Why I came to Studio One as a client

I came to Studio One close to eleven years ago to find my "abs" and ended up with so much more.  I've gained so much knowledge about my own body from Paul, Ana and all the other instuctors and in turn use that to help all of you gain stength in your own bodies.  The best part truly are the friendships I've made and all the terrific stories of success found here at the studio.  We're always moving forward and hope you'll join us!

Which classes I teach at Studio One

On a regular basis I teach level one mat, level one reformer, and core reformer as well.  When I get the chance I love to sub and teach any class from core mat  to level two reformer.

What else I do at Studio One

I have many private clients I see weekly as well as team up with Jessica Strolle to teach the "abs only class". Lots of fun!!

Training/Education/Past life:

During my early years at the studio I was a full-time professional gardener.  That's right: garden all day and teach Pilates at night. After having my daughter (she's 5) I switched gears to full-time instructor, part-time gardener.  My higher education includes schooling for Horticulture and continuous training here at the studio.

Favorite thing about Alaska

My favorite thing about Alaska is the fact I grew up here and digging up all the "remember when" stories from my clients.  There are some good ones!

Guilty Pleasure

I would say guilty pleasures are scary movies  and rock & roll.  The best "guilty pleasure" is when I get to take class here... the ultimate!

Why I came to Studio One as a client

I came to Studio One as a client back in November of 2009, choosing to take my boot camp in the midst of moving my household across town and planning and coordinating a church bazaar, because heck, I could fit it in. But it wasn't stress I was coming for (surprisingly enough). Instead I wanted to realign my posture to what it had been before I moved to Alaska.

Then an opportunity opened up the following spring to become an instructor - which I thoroughly enjoy!!! I have had the good fortune of being involved in various aspects of the studio over the last few years, working with both staff and clients. Although I love teaching group classes, my availability more recently has lessened. So while I am not presently teaching our awesome clients in a group setting on a regular basis, I am privileged to work with some amazing people one-on-one in the evenings Monday-Friday. But when the opportunity arises, I am delighted to sub in the group class setting when I can.

Training/Education/Past life:

Before Studio One Pilates, I lived all over the country, and was involved in a few industry specialties. But over the last (4) years, have been growing my own interests as an entrepreneur here in Anchorage.

Favorite thing about Alaska

I LOVE . . . let me say that again . . . L - O - V - E . . . LOVE the snow!!! Yep - that's one of my favorite things about Alaska . . . the people and the snow (and playing with my puppy in the snow - with or without other people)!

Guilty Pleasure

In my "spare time", I find the wonderful world of chocolate absolutely decadent ;0)

Why I came to Studio One as a client

I started at Studio One in the spring of 2008. The reasons I came to Studio One vary from doctor recommendations to simply doing something special for myself. Thanks to my doctor and Studio One, I was able to lower my stress, anxiety, and depression. As for doing something special for myself, that is exactly what I received from the classes and most importantly from the staff. Four years later I realized that I would enjoy helping clients as well as assuring that they feel special.

I have been at Studio One since its creation. In the fall of 2000 I seized the opportunity to become a [ilates instructor and began my training. With my certification completed by May 2001, I began teaching private lessons and group classes. I have been inspired and challenged every day since.

You will usually find me leading the Reformer Deep Core Toning class on Monday at 11 am. I enjoy teaching challenging workouts that focus on the basics of strong, flexible feet, inner thighs, and abs. The rest of my week is split between my Rolfing practice and teaching Pilates for Structural Integration via private PFSI sessions. The combination of Pilates and Rolfing means that I can address a clients postural needs much more efficiently and effectively.

Training/Education/Past life:

  • STOTT Essential and Intermediate Mat Certification- May 2001
  • BOSU Certification- 2006
  • Certified Rolfer- Dec 2009

I have done many different things in my pre-Pilates life. In addition to working several different retail positions and prepping documents for the Exxon-Valdez litigation process, I spent 3-1/2 years working as a dental assistant and almost 8 years as a barista at Kaladi Brothers. My time at KBC was a fantastic experience that forged in me a deep and abiding love of coffee that thrives today!

Favorite thing about Alaska

My favorite thing about Alaska is the mountains, I think. It's difficult to narrow it down actually. The ocean is beautiful, the feel is expansive, and the air is amazing. And who can ignore the northern lights! The mountains are ever changing though. The lighting, the mood, the sharpness of sunlit ridges and shadowed softness of valleys. I never get tired of looking at them.

Guilty pleasure

My guilty pleasure is probably chocolate. Dark, milk, white, with nuts, carmel, toffee, plain and especially with peanut butter. I love it all!!

Which classes I teach at Studio One

I teach the 7:00 weekday morning mat classes - a variety of Core, Core to Level 1 Transition, and Level 1 as well as the 9:30am Core Mat class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What else I do at Studio One

When not in the studio teaching, you'll find me at the front desk as client retention and fulfillment is my area of focus. I also teach the barre conditioning class, a three-week specialty class.

Training/Education/Past life:

Before "growing up to be a Pilates instructor," I focused much of my attention to being a wife and mom.  My husband and I have two adult-aged daughters, are small business owners (Daniel is a piano technician - tunes, repairs, and sells acoustic pianos), and served together as caretakers for 8 years for our church.  I've worked in communications, served coffee at a fast-paced drive-through coffee shop, managed a coffee shop and even home-schooled my kids for a few years.

Favorite thing about Alaska

I'm a 3rd-generation Alaskan, born and raised in Palmer.  I thrive on grand adventures - hiking, fishing or berry picking.  I love "Handy Mam" projects, getting lost in a good book, any time spent with my dog, and coffee.

I came to the Studio in 2009 because I liked the promise of flatter abs.  I came for about a year until I fell out of practice after spraining an ankle.  After having my son in March 2012, I knew from my former experiences at the Studio, this was where I needed to come to restore my core to what it was before my baby came along.

about ↓

I first came to Studio One at the request of my roommate back in Summer of 2001. After a 3-month exchange program in Costa Rica, I returned in January 2002 to deliver some coffee that I had brought back specifically for Paul (Studio owner and previously of Kaladi Brothers). Being that it was the start of a new year and the phone was ringing off the hook, I was offered a part-time job that snowballed into a wellness career.

I opened my business, Generous Health, in 2012. As the resident health coach at {S1P}, I teach a handful of classes in addition to working one-on-one with people and even small groups. Currently, my rotation includes:

  • Clean Eating Jump Start
  • Cravings Killer: Gain Control Over Sugar
  • Happy Belly Happy Brain
  • 3-week Cleanse and Detox programs

Training/Education/Past life:

Bachelors of Humanities from UAA

E-Myth Small Business Training Certificate
Health Coaching Certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition
American Association of Drugless Practitioners Certification
