What is the difference between Pilates and Yoga?

Yoga and Pilates are both powerful movement practices and are very complimentary to each other. About 15% of Studio One Clients do yoga in addition to Pilates.

Difference 1: Structural Integration Vs. Alignment

Many forms of yoga and pilates are trained on the Postural or Alignment Model in creating a balanced body. These models so not take into consideration postural changes due to age, injury or genetics. The Structural Integration Model, by which Studio One Pilates follows, is based on the principles of Rolfing. These principles consider factors outside of alignment to establish myofascial continuity of tonus and restore your body to a pain-free, stress shedding, and bio-mechancally balanced body.

Difference 2: Research Based and Innovative

Studio One Pilates uses current scientific research and input from medical practitioners and physical therapists to continuously improve our effectiveness.  New research shows for instance that core is more whole body and reflexive than previously thought.

Difference 3: Body First

Studio One Pilates is based on physiological responses in the body. We believe that by structurally integrating the body the goals of more spiritually based practices can be more readily achieved.
